To meet this goal, we strive to create professional, entertaining, and thought-provoking works of theatre in smaller, vibrant theatre communities like Asheville, NC, and then showcase the productions in the more visible hubs of American theatre (such as New York, Chicago, Seattle). In doing so, immediate theatre project hopes to forge real, mutually beneficial collaborations between theatre professionals in the larger hubs and those in smaller theatre communities. We also hope to do what we can to decentralize theatre activity in North America by bringing recognition to the fact that high-quality, meaningful theatre is produced all over the continent, not just in the big cities. We operate under the basic tenets that meaningful theatre should be immediate, i.e. : - collaborative and community-based - relevant and practical - visceral and thought-provoking - candid, direct, honest, and unpretentious, allowing the message of the piece to come through - accessible to diverse audiences ![]() Take a look at where we've been. immediate 2004 The Glass Menagerie The American Dream immediate 0607 All My Sons It's A Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play ![]() ![]()

However, we're developing a new show for our immediate 0607 season, and we would like for new play development to be part of what we do as we move forward. If you would like to submit a script, you may do so by email at scripts@immediatetheatre.org or by post at either address. If you submit a script by mail but would like to have it back, please include a self-addressed, stamped envelope. We will read any script you send to us but be aware that our seasons and resources exist on a somewhat limited scale, so opportunities to stage new work are precious. Things we like, given our limited resources: small casts, possibility for minimalist staging. Things we like, given our particular artistic bent: see end of mission statement, above. |
